about SABLE
Are you willing to help this shy boy break out of his shell? Sable is taking SEPR by storm and already has people swooning over his devilish good looks and sweet disposition. When we first met him, he was a scared and unsure little pup. Sable did not want to leave the safety of his kennel, standing there shaking in the corner and standing in his own urine. But once he got to know you, you'd start to see that glimmer of trust in his eye and a cautious tail wag. He was starting to learn that not all people are bad.
Not much is known about Sable's past life, but we can assume he's been through a lot. He was rescued by a Good Samaritan from a "bad situation" and surrendered to the humane society. All we know is this boy is scared and most likely, not treated very well in his previous home. Due to his fearfulness, he is a very high flight risk and must be carefully secured at all times. This most likely contributed to Sable's injuries, as he is currently recovering from having two torn ACLs repaired, presumably from being hit by a car at some point. It will be important that Sable's future family is committed to keeping him safe and secure at all times.
The list of things Sable is not afraid of is unfortunately much shorter than the list of things of which he is afraid. In his foster home, he is getting a little braver every day! Some of the things that bother him the most right now are crossing thresholds (doorways, etc.), any unexpected or unfamiliar noise and coming out of his crate. Even some of this has improved during his short time with SEPR. Sable thrives off canine companionship and is gaining confidence from his SEPR foster brother Kratos. He would love to go to a home with a confident resident pup to show him the ropes and would have an easier adjustment this way. It is currently unknown how he would do in a home with smaller dogs, cats or children. Given his anxious nature, living with young children may be difficult, as sudden movements and loud noises will frighten him.
While he has no reason to trust humans, he still chooses to. Once you're in, you're in! He will seek you out for comfort and depend on you to keep him safe. Sable is the sweetest young pup who is just learning what it means to be a dog. He's already learned how relaxing it is to cuddle up with his foster brother or human, the fun of playing with toys and showing affection by giving a few too many kisses. I know this boy will continue to surprise us. He is just looking for someone with the time and patience to give him a chance.
