about KLAUS
It was his Christmas wish to land in the SEPR program. Lo and behold, his wish was granted! Named after the jolly man himself, meet Klaus. His good looks and sweet disposition will melt even the coldest of hearts!
Klaus came to us in very rough shape. He was riddled with pressure sores and was about 15 pounds underweight. You can tell that humans were not very kind to him in the past. Due to this, he is very wary of new people and it will take him time to build trust with you, but once you're in, you're in! When you're his person, he wants nothing more than to be next to you. Klaus continues to be brave and is learning that new experiences and people aren't all that bad. Since his favorite spot is near you, he does have a little kennel anxiety, but is getting better and better by the day. He's learning this means a yummy treat or two, then settles down for a relaxing nap. Loud noises also make him nervous, so he probably would not do well in a home with young children. Since Klaus was starved and severely malnourished, he thinks that pretty much anything makes a good snack, especially clothing. He should not be left unsupervised with foreign objects that he can ingest.
We continue to build his confidence through training and new experiences. Did we mention this boy is smart?! He has recently started platform training and will do just about anything for a treat. Down the line, I'm sure he would excel on an agility course. He has already mastered walking with his Gentle Leader and would make a great hiking/walking buddy. Klaus loves his canine friends and being around them makes him more confident. He lives peacefully with SEPR Shelby and his foster sister. He has not been close to little dogs yet, but they don't bother him when he sees them on walks. Doggy friends can make him very excited, so sometimes he needs to be politely reminded not to play rough. He takes direction well and if all else fails, the squirt bottle will stop him in his tracks.
They say good things come to those who wait... By showing him plenty of kindness and patience, you'll be able to discover all the splendor that is Klaus.
