about GUSTAV
Gustav, affectionately known as Gus, Goose, Gooseberry, or Gustopher! This lovable pup was surrendered to a rural Georgia shelter, where he weathered Hurricane Helene alone, waiting for his forever home.
Despite being heartworm positive, Gustav's playful spirit shines through as he navigates his treatment with the energy of a puppy. He’s potty trained, walks well on a leash, and gets along famously with other dogs and even cats!
He loves playing with his canine foster sisters. He’s happy to sit and chew a nylabone or antler or even snooze while you watch tv or work. Although he’s a short king, he is fast and loves to run - inside the house. Walks are enjoyable and his leash manners are top notch. He will take a toy from the toy box and entertain himself while you do your thing, and fetch is fun when you’re available.
He currently lives with a teenager and a preteen and loves the attention of all household members. Are you a Swiftie? Gus loves to watch The Eras Tour.
When he’s not jamming he uses those big floppy ears to learn new commands very quickly - treats are the name of the game! He knows sit, wait, down, settle, come, go outside, and leave it. Public outings are new but have been a breeze, he takes it all in stride.
He sleeps through the night in his kennel. Cuddles are his jam if that’s what you like! He’s kenneled when foster mom has to go into the office and has never had an accident in the kennel. He enjoys a good lick mat or pupsicle before she heads out to drain that brain and then he sleeps long and hard. He is smart so food puzzles and toys for enrichment are a must.
Baths are easy peasy and nail trims are a breeze with a lick mat or someone to give distracting tasty treats. Got an ice maker? He loves ice!
With a loving demeanor and a knack for commands, Gustav is ready to bring joy to any family that welcomes him home.
