about BARRY
Meet Adoptable SEPR Barry! Barry is an energetic, happy boy with a zest for life that is matched only by his love for plushies!
After surviving a traumatic past including hardships like living tied up on a rope in the woods, to surviving Hurricane Helene in an outdoor shelter kennel in Georgia, Barry made his journey to safety in South Dakota back in October 2024 and has been blazing a glorious trail to his forever home ever since!
Despite his outdoor past, Barry has done AWESOME adjusting to in-home living and is 100% house-trained! Barry is kennel-trained and doesn't throw a fit when it's time to return to his crate – but he is also a very joyful guy who thrives on play and interaction with his family, so he does sometimes get a little sad when it's time to return to his kennel, although a simple treat-stuffed Kong or loaded-up lick pad will turn that frown upside-down in no time!
Barry is an athletic dude who LOVES to be active, so he would do best with a family that can make sure he gets plenty of exercise! He loves a good physical challenge and ADORES going for walks. Whether alone or walking with his canine foster brother and sister, Barry has been an absolute ROCKSTAR on his leash! He doesn't react to distractions, and is always extremely friendly with any four or two-legged fellow pedestrians we cross paths with!
In his foster home, Barry has been living with a 4 year old Boxer foster brother, and a 2 year old Chocolate Lab foster sister who he has been doing excellent with. He does a great job walking with them, waiting his turn at feeding time, and sharing the living room couches! Barry is off-leash with his foster siblings on a regular basis, only requiring a little direction around personal space as he continues to learn his boundaries! He also lives with 4 human foster siblings – ages of 4,5,10 and 13 – and he does great with all of them! We are still perfecting containing our excitement and keeping four-on-the-floor at all times – which Barry is making GREAT progress with! He has not yet had a chance to meet any feline friends, but with proper direction we think he would do fine with cats!
Barry loves a good nyla-bone, lick-pad, or Kong toy – but NOTHING makes this guy light up with excitement like a brand new plushie! There is nothing Barry loves more than prancing around the room with a new stuffy in his mouth, showing it off for everyone to see! (Before promptly performing a highly efficient squeaker-ectomy!) Barry does great with baths! He really loves the process of going downstairs to get in the tub, and clearly REALLY looks forward to his after-bath shake off, while during the bath itself he likes to just kind of stand there and look at you like “Are we done yet?!”
Barry's perfect Forever Family would be one that is active and can get this guy all the exercise he needs to thrive! If you like to go for walks, runs, hikes, rides, or any other type of adventures Barry is ready to be your perfect co-pilot! Barry would do well either as an 'only-child' or living with other dogs and children! Barry is a confident, athletic boy whose energy-level can sometimes surpass that of other dogs, so if living with other dogs and children Barry would thrive with a strong pack leader who can continue to build on his already solid base of respecting boundaries and personal space as he continues to adjust to his new lifestyle.
Anyone Barry meets could learn a thing or two about enjoying life from this happy-go-lucky guy, and he doesn't want to waste another day waiting to start the rest of his life! Could you be Barry's Forever Family? Adopt SEPR Barry TODAY!
